Queen of Forest 文明就是用自己的所谓的文明去侵蚀他人的所谓的野蛮。人类在丧失... This was a usual day. I got up
and hurried to work. I led a boring life no one would wish to have. Everyday
was just like another. However, my job as a reporter lay at another
extreme. I faced different everyday, And there were a lot of interesting
incidents. Actually, I needed something exciting. So I went to the wild
place at the outskirt of my city this summer. What made its first appearance to me is a vast ocean of trees and bushes.
In the distance lay the devil's golf course, which shone its yellow
surface under the flames that the sun created. I couldn't make another
step in this muddy ground. I saw water thereat, surrounded by some violent
beds of wild flowers. Toward the small lake I ran in spite of the
splashing mud about. I was completely dumbfounded by the wildness of this
jungle. There was grass, however, making the blanket of the devil's
playground. And now I took some pure water for His dam, as it would be
useful in the rest of my journey. And I gradually found I'd by some means
disturbed the symmetry of natural beauty. There was desert in front of the jungle. I completely lost my sense of
direction. I walked forward in this hot jacket of devil. And I knew on the
way there was nothing but sands. I was exhausted when at last I saw another jungle. And I accelerated my
pace despite my exhaustion. In the jungle I could clearly hear strange
sound. For some reason I became a little scared. I have walked in the
desert for a long day. Now I have entered into the jungle. But I didn't know that was just the
beginning of the whole story. The jungle was full of incredible wonders,
you name it. I wished I was accompanied, while in fact I had nothing but
my baggage. I expected mercy from devil. nevertheless, He really gave me
some. It was a huge one, roaring from time to time. I went blank and ran
away with terror. Undoubtedly I couldn't beat the lion or escape. The
beast came rush and swept all the dust it could cover. Maybe this time I
should tell myself never to give up no matter how hopeless as for many
times I didn't. Then in the bushes around came some strange noise. It was
the savages more often than not. I became more frightened. They clapped
their hands in a quaint way and made faces. They wore strange fur-making
garments, if such they may be called. I was half stiff when I saw that the
lion became very mild, lowered his head and turned away. I knew that I
survived the danger of the lion but also I was terribly conscious about
the next I had to cope with. The savages started to peer at me. I felt as
if I was a E.T. by some means and I tried to communicate with them. We
both spoke something, but it seemed not to work. Some of them started
approaching me. I thought I would be offended so I turned around and
started to run away. However, I held my step as I saw something came in
the distance running toward me like wind. Through the trees I saw a girl
about 20 with long fair hair and few close, riding a brown horse and
rushing quickly. As she was coming near I found she was fair skinned. I
smiled to her with a piece of unknown excitement, wishing a least piece of
perspective of peace. she only had a piece of tough cloth wrapped her
breast with her navel exposed to me and a very short skirt. I noticed her
strong legs when she jumped off the horse. She was bare footed, yet away
from being hurt by the scars on the ground. An impulse to shout would flash through me thoroughly, yet, I remained in
complete silence when she began murmuring something to me. She did speak
English! But poorly pronounced. "Where are you from and who are
you?", she asked. I was then blank in mind and didn't reply. Then she
began hammering away with the question again and again. I felt so scared
that I wouldn't make a sound. Maybe she had completely run out of her
patience. She asked two men to hold my arms and force me to get on my way. After about an hour's walk, we came to a village. What I was seeing was
the image I only saw on TV--rounds and rounds of straw-packed hovels, a
wild bush of small stacks of firewood and a pile of primitive people. Of
course I realized I had reached the outside of this world. I was taken to
a very big hovel. All the people started to peer at me with all kinds of
expression. When the girl--now I knew that she was the queen, came in, the
room became in respectful silence. Again she asked me the same question.
This time I knew I couldn't escape answering it. I told her that I was
from a nearby city. She seemed not to understand. Then I described the
location of my place by simple gestures. Still she didn't get the picture.
Suddenly a man came in and told something to the queen. Then she looked
serious in her face. She came to me and told me that this area was called
Reanna. And she was the queen of the jungle. She asked me to go back and
never step into the jungle again. At first I hesitated for a while. Then
ten of the primitive men came around me. I quickly shook my head and said
OK. The queen took me out and let me sit in a horse. She said it will take
me out of this jungle. Almost in total unconsciousness, I was carried down the way. It was so
strange that the horse knew the way pretty well. The horse ran as if
something was chasing it. I took picture of the village with the camera
just now. Soon we reached the end of the desert and we went through the jungle. As
we came near the edge of the jungle, the horse stopped. And I quickly got
off and ran forward. I realized that I have gone back to civilization
again. It was not long before I came back to my home. Now I had a strong feeling
about the miracles man had created. And I appreciated them. When I got
home, I quickly turned on all the lights, simply to loose my fear of
darkness, which I had suffered all the time during my journey in the
jungle. The next day I went to the publishing house. I intended to have my photos
published but actually the press didn’t accept that kind of things.
However, after a long time of my flights of perspiration, at last, the
editor agreed to give green light to my photos. A week later, I was called to attend a TV show. My photos that were
published in newspaper made a hubbub in the public. And the TV show
centered on the issue of my last journey's just describe the journey but
found time limited to expand on it. I recalled how I fumbled through that
jungle which only left horror to me. Later in another day, I got a call. I was called to guide a group of
experts to explore that jungle. I started to wonder why the government
made such a non-profit decision and I knew that it added another motive.
Then a friend of mine who was an office worker in the government told me
that the government wanted to establish a big marketing center in Reanna
and the primitive people would become civilized. It seemed to be a win-win
deal. Yet when I mentioned the natural resources the government officer
only said it was a pity. I thought for a long time and even slept on it the given night. The next
day I went to the town's hall. I refused to be the guide. The mayor
,with an air of certainty, said it would raise the issue of violent attack
which was at hand. About two weeks later, I was made acquainted that the government was
sending a company of about 100 soldiers to Reanna, along with two tanks,
ten helicopters. This of course instigated a riot right away. It was in the second day when the soldiers lined up to Reanna that I felt
under the necessity of going back to Reanna as long as I could. I quickly
got on my car, starting the journey to Reanna. Everything looked and sounded so familiar when I reached the jungle. I got
off the car and walked forward into the it. I knew that it would still be
a challenge for me to go through this jungle and there would be another
after it the desert. I walked for a whole day and was almost tired to death when I saw
something flashing in the distance. I realized it was the tank firing. And
there were beasts roaring, which could be heard from almost a kilometers
away. I stopped and cried out, "stop!" Of course, they wouldn’t hear. I
held my voice. And there was still a long distance to Reanna. It was a hard journey and I got really exhausted so I stopped for a rest
from time to time. Suddenly I heard the steps of something like a horse in
the distance. The clear steps! It sounded so familiar. Through the trees I
saw a girl riding a horse approaching me. I was Fevenza! She came to me
and asked me to get on the horse. We quickly went through the jungles and the desert. On the the way she
told me that something terrible was happening to their people. she
described that some strange looking people with monsters, such was her
description, were attacking their village. And again I heard noises from
tanks and helicopters. When we were coming near, the attack came to a halt. The soldiers were
gone, leaving only ashes and fires. Through the heavy smoke they made I
saw hundreds of dead bodies on the ground, among which there were even
lions, bears and so on. Fevenza bent down to the ground, closing her eyes. I could feel her
sadness, as it was also very sad for me. I stood still and cursed my self.
Had I not published my photos, all these would not have happened. I had
lost sight of all these when I published my photos. I tried very hard to
collect my memory about Reanna. It was such a lovely place. but now dusts
and ashes covered the ground with dead bodies. Fire flames flared up in
front of my eyes. All these could bear no comparison to those before. As to Fevenza, maybe she had never expected such disaster, which seemed
almost unbearable to her. Then we held our sadness and started burying the
bodies. It took two days. When we talked about what to do next, Fevenza didn't hold her tough
position as usual. She seemed to have lost her air of certainty and
self-confidence which a queen was expected to have. I knew I couldn't
remove her possessiveness of this land completely in a short time. After
all, she was born and raised in this land. But at last, I was glad to
persuade her to go with me. Time passed quickly in modern would. A year later we got married and were
living together in my house. And every year we would go to Reanna, which
became a business center now, to commemorate the Reanna people, who were
described as terrorists in newspaper. We had three sons in about five year's time and we led a ordinary life.
I was true that to change a queen to an ordinary housewife in a completely
different world was extremely hard. And indeed, Fevenza seemed never to
adjust to the life here though she tried hard to come to terms with life.
And noise was her No.1 complaint. Despite her complaint, we continued to live in harmony. Fevenza had always
been asking to be free from the distractions and diversions which
metropolitan people found it hard to escape. And I began to realize the
disagreement between she and this place had always disturbed our life.
Further more, I knew share of this family as her husband and also the
father of the three lovely sons. However, we sought to enjoy our life
which sometimes did create excitement. We noticed more small events in life which may be ignored but actually
might have added to Fevenza's difficulty. So we'd never been at
variance. But we couldn't hold the wheel of some big events. and indeed
it came the disastrous day when we would never see our sons again. That
morning, our three sons were going shopping. It was at noon that I
received a call. Of course, bad news! Our sons were killed in a car
accident. I regarded it as a joke at first. It all came to me as disbelief. Later, I
realized this might be our fate which was supposed to control our life. As
for Fevenza, it was an absolutely nightmare. Maybe she had experienced one
when Reanna was burned down and now it was another for her.
"This is our life." I said to her later. I could only say this to
reflect with a least piece of comfort. Then our life was massed up. We stayed indoors all day and had nothing
especially to do. We talked about future. However, she was lost in
sadness. But at last, we agreed to move back to the mountain area in
Reanna. We started in one morning. She seemed a bit happy. I could see smile in
her face which had not been displayed ever since our sons' death. We
collected our things and left our house. In front of the house, she looked
back and came to hold me. We kissed each other. We knew that we would
never come here again. It seemed not long before we reached Reanna. We looked around, enjoying
the wildness of this place. Fevenza lay down and took a deep breath. We
started to build our house with logs and Fevenza used her magic power on
animals to help us. As evening fell, we stood in front of our house which hadn't been
finished. I had never seen fevenza's happiness since she moved to the
city. And from now on come what may, we still live free from the hustle and
bustle of the outside world forever.
